Lighting the Torch of Education in Rural Zambia
Through generous donations we have been able to complete our biggest project yet with the building of a much-needed school in a poor rural area of Zambia. It is a well-recognised fact that an education, especially English, is pivotal in keeping out of the poverty cycle which is why it has become a beacon of hope for hundreds of children, from little ones just starting out to those in year 8.
During construction trades people, labourers and other businesses benefited from the school project as it provided a rare opportunity to not only work locally, but to add significant value to their own community.
Set on a cleared hectare of land it consists of 3 classrooms, a separate toilet bock, solar electricity, running water, and a house for storage, teacher amenities and accommodation for overseas missionaries.
Community Involvement
This isn’t just a school, it’s a community endeavour with parents and community leaders involved in the planning and building phases, ensuring the institution reflects the aspirations and values of God and the community it serves.
Support Opportunities
The ongoing running of the school will accommodate about 100 students and employ 3 fulltime teachers as well as overseas visiting teachers and aides. Local families grow food in the school grounds and tend to the chickens which feeds the children vegetables, eggs and meat for lunch.
The curriculum at Zamala Academy Christian School is taught in English and designed to ensure that students not only learn about God’s purpose but gain fundamental academic knowledge to keep them out of the poverty cycle by being able to pursue opportunities that support a life of independence.
So far one teacher is sponsored but two are not.
Also around 20% of the students will be orphans who without your financial support will not be able to attend.
